Texas Longhorns | Nick Saban signs extension … Mack Still Head Coach?
By Randy Maltz – Founder/Editor Silver and Blue Report & Hook ’em Report

Texas Longhorns, University of Texas, Mack BrownAs of now, we know two things: 1) Nick Saban is not coming to The University of Texas and 2) Mack Brown is still the Texas Longhorns head coach.

Steve Patterson, the University of Texas Athletic Director, did not mention what was discussed or if any conclusion had been reached.  Brown seems to be fighting to keep his job.  In a speech to end the Longhorns’ annual banquet Friday at the Frank Erwin Center, Brown made no statements on whether he will return next season.

After the banquet,  Brown spoke with ESPN’s Holly Rowe to dispute reports, “ESPN has had the story wrong. Everybody just needs to slow down. I have a good relationship with my bosses, Bill Powers and Steve Patterson, and I look forward to making the best decision (about my future).”

Because of the length of timing this has taken, Nick Saban decided to sign his Alabama Crimson Tide extension offer.  The Tuscaloosa News reported it will raise Saban’s salary to between $7 and $7.5 million per year and further extend the length of the contract.  We know Saban is one of the best coaches any level of football has seen.  Congratulations, Nick!  The Longhorn Nation lost a great potential hire.
