Texas Longhorns: Garrett Gilbert
By Randy Maltz – Founder/Editor at Silver and Blue Report & Hook’em Report

Every Texas Longhorns fan wondered exactly how long the leash was for  Garrett Gilbert in the new Bryan Harsin offense, before the Texas Longhorns would make a quarterback change.  Gilbert not only had 17 picks last season, but had a very average game against the Rice Owls.

Well, on Saturday night against BYU, after eight pass attempts, two completions and two interceptions, Garrett Gilbert was benched.  There is no doubt on my mind that it WAS the right thing to do, if not even taken out earlier in the game.  Since there were 100, 000 booing fans, I was not sure if it was Bryan Harsin or Mack Brown, who benched him.

During the first half, Davis Ash and Case McCoy (little brother of Colt McCoy) both saw playing time.  Whatever adjustments Texas made at halftime worked 0ut. Keeping McCoy under center proved to be a smart move, as Texas came from behind to defeat BYU 17-16.
