Longhorn Network Weekly Programming Update: Texas GameDay to feature former Navy SEAL and UT football player Chris Stroup; Kansas vs. Texas to air on Longhorn Network

Longhorn Network announced last Friday, Sept. 2 that it secured distribution with Grande Communications. The Rice Owls vs. Texas Longhorns game, which aired exclusively on the network, was available to Grande subscribers Saturday evening in time for kickoff.

It was also announced that the Kansas vs. Texas game, slated for October 29, will air on Longhorn Network. LHN will be the exclusive national distributor for the matchup with the exception of in the state of Kansas, where the game will also be televised on select over-the-air stations to be determined at a later date.

Texas Gameday, which airs live two hours before each football game, will feature the story of Chris Stroup, a former Navy SEAL who was a walk-on football player at UT on 9/11/01. Samantha Steele reports on his story to re-join the military after that football season.

Programming Highlights (9/7 – 9/10)

Texas GameDay features for Brigham Young University – Sept. 10, beginning at 4 p.m.
Chris Stroup – A former Navy SEAL, Stroup was a walk-on football player at UT on 9/11/01, a day that motivated him to re-join the military after the season. Reporting by Samantha Steele.
Freshman class – Mack Brown played 18 true freshmen against Rice, the most of his tenure by a wide margin. These rookies, and their older teammates recall what it is like the first time they step into DKR on game day.
Note: Texas GameDay Final, which airs live post-game coverage, will be shortened to 90 minutes and will air from 10 pm. to 11:30 p.m.

Longhorn Extra highlights – live, weeknights at 10 p.m.
BYU great Steve Young appears via satellite on Wednesday, Sept. 7
Bryan Harsin in studio on Thursday, Sept. 8
Joey Harrington in studio on Friday, Sept. 9

Texas All-Access – airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m.
Part three debuts this Wednesday, Sept. 7. The episode will cover Rice week, the agony of cold tubs, and the thankless jobs of the equipment staff.

Game Plan with Mack Brown – airs Thursdays at 7 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 8 show remembers the 10th anniversary of a unique tribute to Cole Pittman, a UT player who died in an automobile accident in 2001.

Texas Greatest Athletes – airs Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
Longhorn Network counts down the 10 greatest athletes in UT history. Who will be on top—Earl, Vince, Ricky or Bobby Layne? (Show debuted on Monday, Sept. 5)
