Garrett Gilbert named starting quarterback for Texas Longhorns

With four quarterbacks competing for the starting job in the offseason, Garrett Gilbert, has reclaimed the starting quarterback job for the Texas Longhorns, even after throwing 17 interceptions in 2010.  Sophomore Case McCoy, redshirt freshman Connor Wood and true freshman David Ash were also in the mix as Mack Brown and his coaching staff waited until the week before Saturday’s opener with Rice to officially name a starter.

Gilbert, a junior from Lake Travis, was chosen during Monday’s first depth chart released.   Case McCoy, Colt McCoy’s younger brother, was listed second on the  depth chart.  Most fans expected this decision, because Gilbert has much more experience than the other three quarterbacks.  Even with the struggles in 2010, Gilbert has so much potential.  Bryan Harsin and Major Applewhite will give Gilbert a short leash and will be watching very closely.
