Top Reasons Garrett Gilbert will Succeed in his Junior Season for the Texas Longhorns (Part 3 of 3)

No pressure:
The problem in the first half of the 2009 season with Colt McCoy, was he felt pressured. But by What? He felt he needed to win games all on his own. Pressure did exactly the opposite. After he sat back and relaxed a little, he got back to his old winning self. Also, last year Garrett Gilbert felt pressured and that was part of his problem. He started throwing ill-advised passes … trying to impress everyone with his skills. Though it wasn’t all his fault, he didn’t have a good supporting cast and therefore had to get everything perfect. But this year, since expectations aren’t very high and he has a reliable supporting cast, the only pressure for Gilbert is winning the starting job. If and when he does, there will not be much pressure, because he can rely on running backs and wide receivers … all will be calm in Gilbert land.

In the end it all comes down to Gilbert. Wither or not he has the support he needs, what he really needs is to mature as a young QB. Take time, scan the field, read the coverage and make the best throw for him and HIS arm strength. After a long year of maturing and all the other mentions above, Gilbert should be ready for his junior season at the University of Texas.
