If you were at a loud sports bar for Friday’s basketball game against Oakland, or if the volume was down, or if you just flat out missed it, here are some quotes from the CBS Studio:

With Texas winning 46-38 at the half, here were some comments:
“I think from Texas’ standpoint, it’s interesting, they shot a really high percentage [in the first half] but they at times, and it’s why I’m not a huge fan of the team, they don’t play with purpose, they don’t really play for one another, they should be pounding Oakland on the interior with Gary Johnson and also Tristan Thompson, but I don’t feel like they have that understanding of how to attack Oakland.” – analyst and former Houston Rocket guard Kenny “the Jet” Smith.
“Texas clearly is a bigger team and a more athletic team… (Kenny) you’re right about Texas, they play the game strictly on talent, they’re not fundamentally sound at all.” – analyst and Hall of Fame NBA star “Sir” Charles Barkley.

After the Longhorns 85-81 victory, this is what was said:
“I thought Tristan Thompson, with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 7 blocks, was the best player on the floor… and Texas was able to deny Oakland at the three-point line. They were only 7-29.” – analyst and former Houston Rocket guard Kenny “the Jet” Smith.
“In fairness, this was a very good game, and Oakland is one of the better teams in this tournament, they just had a horrible matchup. Texas is just too big for them, too athletic over the long range of the game. But listen … I cannot wait for Texas to play Arizona.” – analyst and Hall of Fame NBA star “Sir” Charles Barkley.
You should know that Sir Charles resides in Arizona, and openly cheers for the Arizona Wildcats.
This is nothing new, what Kenny and Charles said has been the national perception of the Longhorns program for much of the Rick Barnes era.

The amusing thought I had while hearing the statements was that I couldn’t tell if they were talking about our Rick Barnes led 2010/2011 Men’s Basketball team or the Mack Brown led 2010 Football team. Ouch.

Nicco’s Prediction: Texas will dominate the boards in this game, and hopefully UT will be respectable at getting to the line and making their free throws.
Score: Texas 78, Arizona 71
